Illegal Images: Proportionality and the Right to Family Life
This conference will look at many of the dilemmas that arise for police, social workers and other professionals when a person has been downloading illegal images from a computer.
Course content:
- Understanding the various computer terms used so as to talk to clients with informed knowledge
- Understand how paedophiles use the computer with regard to accessing child pornography through to networking
- How the use of the computer is used by the paedophile to maintain their distorted thinking & their belief systems
- How technology affects crime & the different terms that are given for the abuse of the computer
- How professionals misuse the computer at home & in the workplace
- Understand how it is possible to forensically examine the computer in order to gather evidence about its misuse
- The different software that is available in order to help protect the computer from misuse & also give warnings to its users against its misuse
- Misuse through accidental involvement, curiosity, stupidity, research, trauma or are they just excuses
- Is what is happening to “downloaders” in proportion to what they have done?
- Criminal law v Family courts. The criminal laws risk assessment not appropriate for the family court
- The criminal audit is not providing the information in order to make the necessary risk assessment
- Fantasy - its affects on behaviour & the escalating problems attached to fantasy. Most of what we knew about fantasy with regard to offending came from offenders who had put their fantasy into practice. Are “downloaders” less likely to hands on abuse?
